My first connection with Christ Church was my christening as a baby in the old “tin tabernacle”. I later attended Sunday School, Brownies and Guides there.

As a teenager I sang in Holy Trinity church choir and when it was closed down, the whole choir moved en bloc to Christ Church, where I met Tony, my husband-to-be who sang in the choir there.

After leaving the Girl’s High School I worked at the Midland Bank under Ronnie Bradley, a long time member of our congregation.

Tony and I were married at St Mary’s at the Walls in 1957 and we moved to Chelmsford, where Tony sang in the Cathedral choir and I sat in the congregation. Our first two daughters were born at Chelmsford and after five years we moved back to Colchester, to the house where we still live.

We returned to worship at Christ Church as a family and had another daughter and a son. I became a member of the Young Wives group and eventually their leader, I was also PCC secretary for some years.
When all four children were at school I worked part time for Marine Photo Services for fourteen years. This company put photographers on cruise ships, but as the market got more competitive it eventually closed down. I then worked part time in Grey Friars Adult Education office for another ten years until I retired.
As already mentioned, one of my daughters lives in Cornwall, and another has been in Australia for 14 years. Luckily my other two children live fairly locally as do three of my five grandchildren.

I have been in my Alpha Group since the first Alpha course and we meet regularly every two weeks.

I serve on the small Service Group and I have been Deputy Churchwarden and am now Churchwarden, and will be able to serve for another two years, if I am elected!
